Synopsis:

Queen Idia is an only child who is orphaned upon birth. Her father dies a few weeks before she is born, and her mother dies a few minutes after giving birth to her. She is adopted by her uncle and, against all odds, grows up to be a strong, fearless, beautiful woman and the queen of the great Benin Kingdom in the Midwestern part of Nigeria. Ascending the throne, her ultimate goal is to make a difference in the Kingdom, but she must first contend with the customs and traditions of the Land and her co-wife, Ohonmi. These competing interests are the backdrop to Queen Idia’s ascent to greatness. She taps into her strength and courage and sures up her resolve to present women’s matters in the Royal Court of the Oba, ruler of the Benin Empire and requested that the killings of Kings’ mothers be stopped. Her fearlessness allows her to attain the highest position a woman can hold in the Kingdom - Iyoba (Mother of the King and Kingdom). When the Kingdom becomes threatened by an external invasion, she readies her warriors and use everything in her arsenal - wit, guts, strength, courage and mystical powers to protect her son and his throne.
